Inline Fuel Filter

Added a fuel filter just before the expensive Injection pump before I start sending vegetable oil through the system. Having the relatively large surface area of the fuel lines and Flat Plate Heat Exchanger (FPHE) without any filtration made me nervous. So I coupled this russel -6 AN fitting Part# 640000:

The filter part# 650130:

The filter has a metal mesh screen that filters to 35 micron and acts as a last minute catcher. The filter can be taken apart and washed if it ever clogs. Having it mated up to AN (Army /Navy) fittings will help with service.

Operation Greased Lightning

Dodge Diesels have a dowel pin under the cover that has been known to wiggle loose over time and could possibly require an expensive engine replacement. I've decided to fix this. The kit can be found from TST for $65.oo.

TST also sells a CAM Plate horsepower upgrade that boasts the best dollar to horsepower / torque gain for the cummins 12v 2nd generation engines. This will take my 180hp and 420 ft-lb of torque and transform it to 250 hp and 635 ft-lb's using the #6 plate.

TST offers both in a kit with all of the instructions at a discounted price. Here is the link.

New Centrifuge

Got a new pump / motor that supplies less GPM than the previous one from Ebay.
This pump / motor was found through USA Industrial Supply who sells Overstock. It was $125 after delivery it 3 GPM at 100psi. If you increase the PSI the GPM drop down. 100 PSI is the max.

My centrifuge is built to operate on a little less than a gallon per minute.
I would have to bypass 66% of my oil and do many passes in order to filter all of the oil and there would be no way of knowing that all of your oil had been filtered or not.

If I can't find a better deal I will have to break down and purchase this centrifuge from PA
Biodiesel:
and sell mine on Ebay or Craigslist.

Re-Plumbing and Refitting

Sunwizard on the BurnVeg.com forums has a simple and effectively designed vegetable oil system specifically designed for the 12v 94-98 Dodge Rams.

Here are some pics of how I am executing a similar conversion:

This is a picture of the vacuum filter that I used previously and have decided to replace it for a system that puts the filters on pressure.

Use a hacksaw to cut the battery box so you can fit the Flat Plate Heat Exchanger (FPHE) at the rear of the driver side battery.

Here is what it looks like before

This is the area for the new pressure filter. Pictured is a water bloc filter, these filters will not separate water which is immersed in vegetable oil.
